The NVIDIA Shield was one of the first streaming-focused devices that primarily set its sights on the gamer market. Before Nintendo released the Switch, it was a common argument that the Shield was a better investment as its operating system was more open than Nintendo’s Horizon OS, but also that it featured the same CPU as the one Nintendo had opted to partner with NVIDIA to put in the Switch itself.
NVIDIA used the same Tegra X1 found in the Nintendo Switch for all of its device revisions up until late 2017. After that, NVIDIA updated their devices to support passthrough, newer Bluetooth standards, and eventually to allow transcoding and decoding of media.
In addition to including a bunch of bug fixes, the Shield Experience 9.2 update brings along quite a few new “enhancements.” You can check a list of the changes below:
NVIDIA Shield Experience 9.2 Changelog
Enhancements
Added support for Match audio content resolution feature when using a USB DAC
Added ability to clear HDMI 1.4 flag via factory reset
Added match Frame Rate (beta) enhancement
Added French parental control
Added security enhancement for 4K DRM playback

SHIELD TV will be removed from Google Home integration after SHIELD Experience 9.2 installation. Visit NVIDIA support to reconfigure.
